Electronic Form

• Authors are reminded that changes to their paper version must also be incorporated into their disk version. Do not try to be overly fancy; you would be better off spending your time "fine-tuning" the content and leaving the format to the publisher. Please try to adhere to the accepted style of this JOURNAL as much as possible. The reference list is of particular importance:

• The following is a list of general guidelines for submission of electronics media by prospective authors: 1) The operating system and word processing software used to produce your document should be noted on your disk or tape (e.g., DOS/WordPerfect). In the case of Unix media, the method of extraction (i.e., tar, bar, dump) should also be noted. 2) The hardcopy should match its companion disk/tape exactly. Any changes that have been made to the hardcopy should be incorporated into your disk/tape. 3) The disk/tape should be labeled with the file name(s) relating to the manuscript. 4) No program files should be included on the disk/tape. 5) Package floppy disks in such a way as to minimize possible damage in transit. 6) Include a flat ASCII version on the disk with the word-processed version, if possible. 7) Adhere to the accepted style of this JOURNAL as much as possible.
• While the list of processing programs acceptable is almost endless, there are preferred programs that, when used,enable the preservation of the greatest amounts of information. \TeX and \LaTeX are preferred. An IEEE \LaTeX style file, IEEE Trans. Sty. is obtained by authors who e-mail a request to help@ep.ieee.org. The following points are important to remember when submitting electronic manuscripts (compuscripts) in \TeX or \LaTeX: 1) Include all macros (\def) that are required to produce your document. 2) IEEE JOURNAL sytle dictates a 21-pica (3.5-in.) column width. If mathematical phrases are produced with this in mind, they are apt to appear more aesthetically pleasing in the final version.
• The IEEE will accept 1) any IBM-PC (or 100% compatible) disk format: 2.5-in./360k/1.2 Mb---3.5-in./720k/1.44 Mb (DS/DD, DS/HD, DS/QD, etc.); 2) Macintosh disk format (low and high density); 3) 0.25-in. magnetic tape cartridges (Unix: tar, bar, dump); 4) 3.5-in. floppy disk (Unix: tar, bar, dump); 5) 8-mm tape cartridges (Unix: tar, bar, dump).   Copyright

  It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interest of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with IEEE policy under the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign an IEEE copyright transfer form before publication. This form, a copy of which appears in each January issue of this JOURNAL, returns to authors and their employers full right to reuse their material for their own purposes. Authors must submit a signed copy of this form with manuscripts.

  Submission

  Please submit 1) an original and two hard copies of all manuscripts, including the original ink drawings and/or glossy photographs of the figures, 2) references, which must include full titles and first and last page numbers of articles, 3) the completed copyright release form, 4) a floppy disk containing the text portion of the paper, and 5) photographs and short biographies of the authors (optional).   Page Charges

  After a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the author's company or institution will be asked to pay page charges of $110 per page to cover part of the cost of publication. In addition, overlength page charges of $260 per page are mandatory for each page in excess of eight printed pages and are required for publication. Page charges (first eight pages only) for this JOURNAL are not obligatory, nor is their payment a prerequisite for publication. The author will receive 100 free reprints without covers if the charge is honored. Detailed instructions will accompany the galley proof.
